Last night Maura and Bill Lorenzen generously hosted a potluck get together with the assistance of Kevin Jones and Lisa Beck to discuss plans for a Block Party in the spring. Also on the agenda was the desire to establish a Block Association to help monitor issues directly relating to our residents.
A tentative date of June 13th was discussed for the Block Party and Kevin collected emails to start a group mail for those interested in being involved. He also volunteered to file the necessary papers to get a permit once a date is agreed upon. There is a minimum six week lead time to the process.
Martha Partridge and Kevin Jones volunteered to pursue the steps necessary to establishing a recognized Block Association.
As more news becomes available it will be posted here.

I spoke with a Mrs. Gonzalez at Community Board 7 who will send me the Block Party Package when they go out at the end of January. Until then there is nothing we can do towards applying - it must be in the same year. When I receive the package there are many requirements to meet for application. Primary being that we obtain signatures from 51% of the listed households on the block in favor of the party. One signature per household only.
We also need letters from businesses that may be affected by closing our street and also from local churches.
When we return this info we are granted an application and our date will be considered. This part must be filed no less than 10 weeks before the date of the event. That means we need our signatures and letters in before the end of March.
According to a woman at Marty Markowitz's office - to become a recognized block association 51% of the registered households on the block must sign a petition in support of establishing an association. The block party petition could serve this purpose as well - however perhaps we don't want to wait till February to move on this. There are no set guidelines on administering a block association. It was suggested that we contact a successful association and attend one of their meetings or get their assistance.
When we have the signatures in support of an association we take it to Community Board 7. Tomorrow I may have more information from Alice Long who handles these matters on a regular basis.
